A festival. A concert. A celebration of those who came before us—and the life that continues because of them.
On November 15, Capital One Hall comes alive as the Capital Wind Symphony presents Día de los Muertos: Vibrations of the Afterlife—an immersive evening where remembrance becomes celebration and the concert hall becomes a gathering place for community.
Beginning at 6:00 PM, experience a vibrant community festival filled with live mariachi, cultural foods and drinks, dancing, art-making, and activities for all ages. At the heart of the celebration is a community ofrenda, and we invite concertgoers to bring a photograph of a loved one they wish to remember and add it to the altar—creating a shared memorial shaped by the people who gather with us.
At 7:00 PM, the Capital Wind Symphony takes the stage for a powerful musical journey through memory, loss, tradition, and joy. Music by Silvestre Revueltas, Igor Stravinsky, George Walker, Dennis Llinas, Juan Pablo Contreras, Scott McAllister, and H. Owen Reed joins a newly commissioned arrangement of the beloved La Llorona for mezzo-soprano, guitar, and winds.
With bilingual storytelling throughout, Vibrations of the Afterlife invites us to remember those we have lost, celebrate what they have given us, and discover how music can transform remembrance into community.
Bring your family. Bring your curiosity. Bring a photograph and the memory of someone you love.
