The Capital Wind Symphony welcomes back Dr. Lake to the Capital One Stage! Dr. Lake was recently appointed Director of Concert Bands at the Dewberry Family School of Music at George Mason University, where he conducts the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band. He teaches conducting and wind literature classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Lake brings infectious energy and enthusiasm to the podium. “"Metamorphosis" weaves together compositions that, like a moth's transformation, evolve through changing motives, variations, and narratives. Each piece is a testament to the power of metamorphosis in music, reflecting the beauty of transformation and evolution in both nature and art.” – Dr. William L. Lake, Jr.
The Capital Wind Symphony is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier wind symphonies. The ensemble is based near the Nation's Capital and attracts many of the finest musicians from DC, MD, and VA. Members include military musicians, freelance players, studio teachers, and music educators. After 32 years, the band continues to thrive and support its mission by performing concerts at its new home, the Capital One Hall in Tyson's, Virginia, and presenting community and educational outreach programs throughout Northern Virginia and Maryland.
Mission: “Celebrating and sharing the Great American Wind Band Tradition by presenting FREE diverse and engaging programs and enriching music education by mentoring and inspiring students.”
